WBTS Day and Night System

This week we have our day and night cycle, beginnings. You may be wondering why we need a 24 hour clock going during the game, and once we introduce the Strategy Map System, it will begin weaving together. Be sure and check it out. You can control the days with the slider bar at the top.

Thanks!

WBTS Weather Effects: Rain v.75!

The first controllable Weather Effects (rain) is in place! We took time to create a weather system with an actual Temperature and Humidity setting. This is the first step to generating a complete procedural, seasonal system for WBTS. In the later weeks, we will have snow, all four seasons and the approximate weather patterns and visual cues to go along with it.

Thanks for following!

WBTS Weather Effects: Rain v.5!

As we prepare for the seasonal changes in War Between the States, we need our weather effects tested and double checked. If you think the rain falls differently in the north than in the south, let us know and we’ll be sure to capture it. Our first version is a generic rain pattern, next week we’ll give you the controls and let you make your own thunderstorms (with lightning!).

Have a great week,
Walker Boys

Thank you for the great feedback and suggestions for the Camera System in WBTS. We have tested all the numbers, crunched the ideas and come up with our first ‘polish’ pass on the camera. Be sure to continue testing it out (v 1.0 here) and providing us with excellent feedback.

We appreciate it and you greatly!
Thank you,

WBTS Feature Showcase!

This is it! We are really excited and proud to present our first Feature Showcase for ‘War Between the States’.

The Camera System and Controls!

Our programming team has worked very hard creating the first round of features for this system. ‘War Between the States’ is built on both intuitive and smooth camera controls, however not everything is perfect the first go around…which brings us to You!

Questions you may be asking yourself right now:

- Do I need to sign up to be a tester?
- Does my opinion really matter?
- How does this whole thing work, I’m confused?

Everyone can be a tester (Ages 1-99+ approved).
And ‘Yes’, your opinion matters greatly to us!

Remember, this is ‘development’, which means it is not complete and certainly open to opinions and feedback. If this is your first time to provide feedback for a game in development, then I would suggest reading over two wonderful examples below of ‘how-to’ write a comment(s). :)

Correct way to provide excellent feedback:

HappyBo says: Amazing looking so far guys! I tested it for 26 hours straight. After using the camera movement controls, I have found a few issues and have two suggestions for improving the navigation.  Etc.

Maybe not the best way to provide feedback (Below):

AngryBo says: This stinks! I can’t stand the controls. The camera is awful!!!!! By the way, when’s it coming out?

Note: It’s difficult for us to figure out what ‘stink’ and ‘awful’ represent in our Showcases. The more information you can provide the better we’ll have at addressing your concerns and making the best system it can be.

Thank you!!
Walker Boys

Remember: Our programming team is working hard every day to keep things moving forward, and as we mentioned in previous posts, we want each of you to be personally involved with our final development of ‘War Between the States’.  When our development team completes a new system, feature or gameplay element, we will post it to WBTS Feature Showcases, for your review and comments. A new feature will typically emerge once a month, so stay tuned in!

Unity Engine Technology

In our adventures with 3D game engines, we have had the opportunity to use nearly every engine on the market. A little over one year ago, Unity Technologies released their award winning, highly popular Unity engine to the PC public.

Since then, we’ve developed multiple published games with this engine and found it to be incredibly stable, highly customizable and right in line with our goals for War Between the States. With a software engineering team of over 70 (At Unity Technology), we feel confident that our tools and engine development are well taken care of.  At Walker Boys Studio, we can now focus our efforts and time directly on creating the ‘AAA’ Civil War game we set out to those few years back. :)

Moving forward with War Between the States, we are taking full advantage of all next-gen capabilities that will push the visual quality and gameplay excitement to an incredible new level of excellence!

Next week, prepare yourself for a historic moment, as WBTS Feature Showcase makes its first official debut! Get excited folks; tell your friends, this is going to be amazing!

Out with the old in with the new!

A question that often found its way through our emails was, “Is your tech up to date?” Well, in my first post for next month, we will get in to just that. We will announce our new engine technology , toolset and provide you with the reasoning behind it.
